Mawlamyaing Hotels
The capital of the Mon state, Mawlamyaing, lies 300 km south of Yangon at the mouth of the Thanlwin river. Moulmein is an active port exporting rice and wood. This city was the administrative center of the country during colonial times (1827-1852), many colonial buildings dating back to that time can be seen. You will see antiquated wooden buses driving around this city. There are many interesting sites around Moulmein which are seldom frequented by tourists; you will have the opportunity to visit the biggest reclining Buddha in the world in Mudon, the astonishing pagoda of Kyaikhami which is perched on a rock in the middle of the sea. You may want to travel to the small town of Thanbyuzayat and its memorial cemetery, or the Setse beach fishing villages. On the way back to Yangon you can discover the small town of Pa-han and the monastery of Tamania where it is possible to spend the night. People seeking an insight into authentic Burmese culture will be delighted by Moulmein and its inhabitants.
