Strand Hotel - Yangon
![]()
Description
Built in 1901 by John Dawood, the Strand Hotel was formerly one of the most prestigious hotels in Asia. Today it retains the luxurious ambiance of a bygone era: polished wooden floors and antique furnishings, collections of rare artifacts, beautiful bathrooms. The Strand offers 32 elegant suites, very nicely decorated with teak floors and high ceilings.
The Strand Café serves meals in a very intimate atmosphere. You will find the broad teak windows, candlesticks, high ceilings and refined food absolutely charming. The Strand Grill offers culinary creations in a sumptuous dining room. In the bar you can sample from a variety of cocktails in a very friendly environment. A traditional jazz group will accompany your evenings every Friday. Visitors as well as local people often meet in the lobby lounge which is the epicenter of the Strand.
All the rooms are equipped with modern amenities; the Strand also has a massage center, several shops where you will find traditional jewelry as well as Burmese artifacts.
Opinion
We like this hotel for its top-of-the-range luxury but unfortunately it lacks a swimming pool, and some greenery which we consider important for your holidays.
